Construction of Bowcliffe Hall was begun in 1805 by William Robinson, a cotton spinner from Manchester. After completing only the West Wing, Robinson sold the property for £2000 to John Smyth, who finished the estate. Smyth died in 1840 and the entrusted estate was purchased by George Lane Fox of Bramham Park.[1] It remained in the Lane Fox family until 1908 when it was purchased by W. G. Jackson. In 1920, the house was bought by the aviation pioneer Robert Blackburn.[2]
As of 2009, Bowcliffe Hall housed the main office of Bayford & Co petroleum company.
Bowcliffe Hall's site (next to the A1 road south of Wetherby) was the site of the battle of Bramham Moor in the fifteenth century and the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644, when the Royalists were defeated in the English Civil War.[1]
Bowcliffe Hall is now home to the Bayford Group of Companies.
